Home Sleep Testing now allows patients screen for Obstructive Sleep Apnea in the
privacy of their home!
The ARES (Apnea Risk Evaluation System) Home Sleep Device by Watermark Medical provides an integrated approach to assist in the diagnosis of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). The ARES design combines existing knowledge on sleep disordered breathing with an easy to apply data acquisition system. When worn in the home, the ARES provides a better profile of the patient’s breathing during sleep in his/her normal sleep environment. The small size of ARES allows it to be comfortably worn in all sleep positions. Patient’s nightly routine is unaffected.
What does it measure?
- Airflow (nasal pressure)
- Pulse Rate
- Blood Oxygen Saturation
- Head Position/Movement
- AHI – Apnea Hypopnea Index
- RDI – Respiratory Disturbance Index
How does it work?
Once evaluated by Dr. Connolly, patients will be scheduled for a Home Sleep education appointment. The patient will be shown how to properly use the equipment and it will be sized accordingly – this appointment takes place in our office and usually takes no more than 15 minutes. The patient will take the device home and sleep with it overnight. The device will be returned the next business day. Interpreted results will be available within approximately 24 hours.
